L'Indigotier is a short film with magical-realistic undertones that revives an oral story from West African folklore. In collaboration with the African diaspora in Matongé, a vibrant neighbourhood in Brussels, the mythical story of the indigo tree and the twin sisters is transported to the present. This reconstruction, based on the collective nature of filmmaking, incorporates the personal feelings, memories and locations (such as the Matongé gallery, the botanical garden in Meise and Kuumba) of the (non-professional) actresses. Past, present, reality, fiction, the magical and the ordinary come together on a dreamy canvas of indigo blue tones.

(Direction Julie Daems, graduation project at KASK Ghent)

"In a dreamy rainforest, where the trees whisper and the leaves are blue and shiny, the mythical twins Clara and Opaline were born. Afterwards, there was no trace of their mother. The girls now undertake a quest and break through time. They end up in the heart of contemporary Brussels. Their remarkable appearance brings the women of the neighbourhood together to sing a song that revives the secret of the Blue Queen.
